Grumeti experiences pleasant temperatures, although summers can
be hot and humid. The seasons can vary from year to year, however, and
if rains do not fall when expected, the cyclical movement of wildebeest
and other herbivores is influenced.
Rainfall:
Rainfall is seasonal. The dry season usually extends from June to October.
The so-called "short rains" come in November and December. This is followed
by another dry spell in January and February. The "long rains" come
from March to May. The average annual rainfall at Grumeti is 800mm to
1 000mm.
Temperature:
Temperatures in the western corridor of the Serengeti are generally
warmer than in the eastern Serengeti and may rise above 36°C/97°F. Summers
can be hot and humid. Generally, temperatures are pleasant, rarely rising
above 32°C/90°F. September, October and January are the warmest months.
Temperatures rarely drop below 10°C/50°F. July is usually the coolest
month.
Altitude:
Grumeti is about 1 200m above sea level .

There is excellent game viewing throughout the year. The best time
to see the migration and crocodiles in action is June, July and August
- these months fall in the dry season.
