The striking Maasai
people make up the local Olosokwan community with the nearest manyatta
(Maasai homestead) just five kilometres from the camp. The recent lease
agreement sets aside land surrounding Klein's Camp for the exclusive
use of the lodge and further land to be shared by the camp for its safari
operations with the villagers for grazing of their livestock.

Following the land tenure agreement with the Olosokwan, we at CC Africa
have committed ourselves to contributing significant funds from the
Rural Investment Foundation (RIF) (now called the Africa Foundation)
for development support.
The
Africa Foundation has been instrumental in the construction of a health
clinic, the creation of a fledgling wild honey industry and a market
for women to sell handicrafts to guests.

CC Africa has taken a pioneering role in diversifying the remote
economy of the Olosokwan region and securing an innovative agreement
with the local landowners. The community benefits from the proximity
of the camp in terms of employment opportunities and improvement of
community social services. A joint committee involving representatives
from CC Africa and the local community manages the concession.
Rising
from the kitchen to the computer is local Tanzanian, Kering'ot
Purengey, who joined as a kitchen helper and soon moved on to waiter,
then storekeeper and clerk. He has started doing accounts and learnt
how to use a computer. His devoted progress within CC Africa at Klein's
has earned him two prestigious in-house awards.
Our
guests play a critical role in helping us realise our dream and our
vision. You are our future ambassadors, the meeting place between Africa
and the world. You are the engine that drives our dream of advancing
the green and wild frontiers of the oldest continent on earth, of helping
us to permanently re-establish our planet's endangered species and wild
places.
